Student Resume — no work experience? Start here

Build a student resume that earns attention without formal work experience: coursework, projects, volunteering and a clear summary.

You have less work experience than the person next to you in the pile, and more recent training than many of them. A student resume works by making the second fact visible quickly.

What to put on it

  • Education first — degree, expected graduation, relevant coursework, grades if they are strong
  • Projects — academic, personal or open source, with what you built and what it did
  • Internships and part-time work — these count as experience, treat them that way
  • Volunteering and society roles — responsibility, organisation, results
  • Skills — tools you actually use, not tools you have heard of

The one-page rule, honestly

For a student, one page is right. Not because of an arbitrary rule, but because everything you have fits well on one page and padding to two makes it look thinner, not fuller.

A summary that works

"Final-year computer science student at Delhi Technological University, graduating May 2026. Built three production web apps for university societies and completed a data engineering internship. Looking for a graduate backend role."

Common mistakes

  • Listing every module instead of the four that matter
  • Writing duties for a part-time job instead of what you improved
  • Hiding your projects at the bottom when they are your strongest evidence
  • Leaving out expected graduation dates
